About Us
Life is full of twists and turns and opening a Paint Your Own Pottery studio is no different. I had been in sales for 19 years and getting burnt out. My sister had been taking her kids to PYOP studios for years as a family outing and for great family gifts. She had been wanting to open a studio for years but it was never the right time until one day she asked me to open one with her.
Our location was chosen because we had lived in the Howell/Brighton area for years and recognized the fact that there were not a lot of kids birthday party places in the area. That, along with a place needed for adults to have a place to go to express themselves through painting or glass fusing.
In January 2007, I left my job and the two of us focused on opening The Ceramic Studio Etc... We finally opened in June 2007 after much redesign, build-out and permit issues. Shortly after we opened the doors she realized that it wasn't right for her and she left the business.
I decided to continue and my husband stepped in to become my partner (when he is not at his "real" job) and we have been running it ever since. He maintains the website and marketing efforts and together we have expanded the glass fusing capabilities where we help you create one-of-a-kind jewelry, plates, bowls and vases.
Our family grew by one in August of 2009 when we added Bisquit to the mix. A Maltzu (Maltese/Shih-Tzu), she comes to the studio most every day. Her fan base is growing and some customers just stop by to see her between the days they paint pottery. If you have allergies there is no need to worry because her breed is non-shedding and hypo-allergenic. If you are still worried, we will just make sure she doesn't lick you! She has gone through training to be a well behaved studio dog. We will make sure everyone is comfortable with her roaming around checking on the progress of your project before we let her out.
Hundreds of birthday parties, dozens of Ladies Nights and thousands of customers later, The Ceramic Studio Etc... has become a place for kids, adults and families to come together to be creative and to make memories together.
We have a good time with the customers (our guests), we laugh a lot and enjoy supporting the community. Please stop by to check out our selections, say "Hi" to Bisquit or create a masterpiece in glass or ceramics!
