Maple Arts Academy
The Ceramic Studio Etc... has partnered with the Maple Arts Academy in Commerce Twp. to offer craft camps at their location. We currently have kids craft camps scheduled and may soon be adding adult workshops.
Maple Arts Academy recently opened in the Steinway Piano Gallery on the Southeast corner of M-5 and Maple Rd. offering brand new classrooms and studios allocated for drama, dance, art, vocal, instrumental, language and educational instruction.
Take a look at the Maple Arts Academy website for more information about everything they have to offer.
We have a sign-up sheet you can fill out and mail, email, call in or stop by our studio with payment and information. The following camp descriptions explain all of the detail and fun!
Our camps at Maple Arts have finished for the summer. Check back later for upcoming events.
Go Fish
Ceramic Bubble Painting Technique and Clay Hand Building
You may think this sounds fishy, but it is going to be a whole lot of fun! We will start off the session by taking a ball of clay and turning it into a really great looking fish! This will be done by a hand building technique and will be painted the same day.
We will also be teaching a very unique bubble blowing technique that will be applied to a 6” tile. A ceramic fish of your child’s choice will be painted and attached to the tile. It is going to get messy, but all paints are water based which means they wash out of clothes beautifully! Aprons will be available!
(Ages 7+)
Peace
Ceramic Tie-Dye Painting Technique, Glass Fusing and T-shirt Tie-Dying
We will be flashing back to the 70’s! Your child will apply a Tie-Dye technique to an 8” coupe salad plate using ceramic under glazes in fun writer bottles and accenting it with a peace sign (or other symbols/designs).
They will also Tie-Dye a T-shirt they can proudly wear all summer!
The fun does not stop there – we will also be assembling a fused glass keychain by using precut pieces of glass (no glass cutting required). Peace signs are optional!
(Ages 7+)
Fun and Functional
Ceramic Painting and Glass Fusing/Slumping
We will have fun by completing two functional projects.
First your child will choose and paint one of several available banks that fit his or her personality. A bank at the beginning of summer is perfect for saving allowance money they will earn by cheerfully completing all of their chores! : )
Fusing is fun! We will teach basic glass fusing terminology, techniques and cutting by completing a 6” glass project that will be slumped into a vase/votive holder or a bowl. Safety glasses will be provided.
(Ages 9+)
Stamp-It!
Ceramic Painting with Stamps and Clay Slab Rolling
In this session we will learn the art of clay slab rolling and clay stamping by forming and painting a Clay Pocket Wall Plaque.
We will also explore the use of rubber stamps by creating designs on your child’s very own mug.
(Ages 9+)
Girl Power
Ceramic Painting and Glass Fusing
These will be total girly projects, but boys are welcome if they would like to make a gift for mom, aunt, grandma…
Your child will choose between a ceramic flower plate and a heart dish that they will paint in their own unique way.
They will also make a fused glass pendant by forming their creation out of pre-cut glass (no glass cutting required). A black leather cord will be provided to proudly wear their work of art.
(Ages 7+)
Time to Shine
Ceramic Painting and Glass Fusing
In this session we will create projects that tell us the time and will let the sun shine through!
To tell time, we will use a pre-drilled 10” ceramic coupe plate and apply different techniques to design the background of a clock. After the glazing and firing process a clock kit will be installed completing a fully functional clock that your child designed and painted!
We will also teach basic glass fusing terminology, techniques and cutting by completing a 4” colorful fused glass sun catcher that will brighten any room! Safety glasses will be provided.
(Ages 9+)
Cut-It-Out
Ceramic Painting and Clay Hand Building
Your child will create two great projects using cut-out techniques.
Kirigami is a technique using both folding and cutting of paper. Your child will design a Kirigami cut-out and apply it to a ceramic coupe salad plate using an easy and fun technique.
We will also use table top hand building techniques with clay and cut-out and paint shapes to create a one of a kind wind chime.
(Ages 7+)
Be-Jeweled/Be-Dazzled
Ceramic Painting and Glass Fusing
This is great for both boys and girls – they will be “dazzled” by the choices!
Create two pieces of fused glass jewelry using regular or dichroic glass. Your child may choose to make a set of earrings, a pendant and/or a keychain (they may pick a combination of any two). We will teach basic glass fusing terminology, techniques and cutting. Safety glasses will be provided.
They will also choose to paint a ceramic ring holder, a small round bowl or a small square bowl. These pieces are great for dresser top storage of the jewels they make in this session, pieces they already own, loose change or even ice cream! The possibilities are endless!
(Ages 9+)
Hang-It-Up
Ceramic Painting and Mosaics
Get the hammer and suction cups out!
Your child will paint one of several available wall/name plaques by applying suggested techniques or just by being unique!
They will also create a colorful Mosaic Sun Catcher by choosing one of several acrylic shapes and gluing pieces of cathedral glass to the form. This project does not need to be fired or fused so they can take it home with them that day!
